Privacy policy
Under Article 13 of the Swiss Federal Constitution and the federal data-protection rules (the Data Protection Act, in its revised 2023 form), everyone has the right to have their privacy protected and their personal data safeguarded against misuse. I take those rules – and the protection of your personal data – seriously. I don't sell your personal data or pass it to third parties for their own use, and I handle everything you share with me in confidence, in line with data-protection law.

This website, timoeugster.com, is operated by:
Timo Eugster Email: timo@timoeugster.com
I am the data controller for the personal data collected through this site. If you have any questions about how your data is handled, you can reach me at the email address above.
-
This policy explains what personal data I collect when you visit timoeugster.com or get in touch, why I collect it, how I use it, and what rights you have. I only collect what I need, and I don’t sell your data to anyone.
-
When you contact me. If you fill in the contact form or email me, I receive the details you choose to share — typically your name, email address, your organisation, and whatever you write in your message. I use this only to respond to you and to discuss possible work together.
When you browse the site. Like most websites, this one collects some technical information automatically through analytics and hosting — for example your approximate location (country or region, not your exact address), the type of device and browser you use, the pages you visit, and how you arrived at the site. This is used to understand how the site is performing, not to identify you personally.
-
I process your data to:
reply to your enquiry and manage any resulting work or correspondence;
keep the website secure and running properly;
understand how visitors use the site so I can improve it.
Under the revised Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (revDSG / nFADP, in force since 1 September 2023), I process this data on the basis of my legitimate interest in running and improving my business and responding to enquiries, and — for analytics cookies — on the basis of your consent, which you give through the cookie banner when you first visit.
-
I use Google Analytics, a web-analytics service provided by Google Ireland Limited (and Google LLC in the United States), to see how visitors use the site — which pages are read, how long people stay, and how they found me. This helps me improve the content.
Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies to collect this information. The data generated (including a shortened/anonymised version of your IP address) may be transferred to and stored on Google servers, including in the United States. Google processes this data on my behalf under a data-processing agreement.
Your choice. Analytics cookies only run if you accept them through the cookie banner when you arrive. You can change your mind at any time by adjusting your cookie settings, and you can block Google Analytics across all sites using Google’s browser opt-out add-on: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
You can read how Google handles data in its own privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
-
A cookie is a small text file a website stores on your device. This site uses:
Essential cookies that make the site work and keep it secure. These are always on.
Analytics cookies (Google Analytics, above) that help me understand how the site is used. These run only with your consent.
When you first visit, a banner lets you accept or decline non-essential cookies. You can change your preference at any time via your browser settings.
-
This website is built and hosted on Squarespace (Squarespace Ireland Ltd / Squarespace Inc.). Squarespace processes limited technical data — such as server logs and security information — as part of providing the hosting service. You can read Squarespace’s privacy policy at www.squarespace.com/privacy.
-
I don’t sell your personal data, and I don’t share it for anyone else’s marketing. Your data is only handled by:
the service providers named above (Google, Squarespace), acting on my instructions;
authorities or advisers, where I’m legally required to disclose it.
-
Some of these providers process data outside Switzerland, including in the United States. Where that happens, the transfer is covered by appropriate safeguards — such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses and equivalent measures recognised under Swiss law — so your data keeps a comparable level of protection.
-
I keep personal data only as long as I need it:
• Enquiry and correspondence data: for as long as we’re in contact and for up to 24 months afterwards, in case you get back in touch, then deleted.
• Client project records: kept for the duration of the work and for 10 years afterwards, to meet legal and accounting obligations (Swiss law generally requires business records to be kept for ten years).
• Analytics data: retained by Google for 14 months.
-
Under the revDSG you have the right to:
ask what data I hold about you and get a copy of it;
have inaccurate data corrected;
have your data deleted where there’s no legal reason for me to keep it;
object to certain processing, including analytics;
withdraw consent at any time, without affecting anything done before you withdrew it.
To exercise any of these, just email me at timo@timoeugster.com. I’ll respond as quickly as I can, and normally within 30 days.
If you’re not happy with how I’ve handled your data, you can contact the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC / EDÖB) at www.edoeb.admin.ch.
-
I take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No website can be completely secure, but I work only with reputable providers and keep access to your data limited to what’s necessary.
-
I may update this policy from time to time — for example if I start using a new tool. The current version is always the one on this page, with the date at the top showing when it last changed.
